2. Remove all the programs from your system that you no longer use. Windows XP uses up a lot of your systems memory by itself and adding more programs to your computer will make it run slower. There are some programs that use up your system memory even when you're not using them. After some time, you might see an error telling you that your system is out of memory as a result of these programs.

3. Run the disk defragmenter tool. This program will arrange all the files and folders on your system making it easier for your system to access the files on your computer's hard drive.

4. Run a registry scan. Running a scan of your registry after completing the first two steps will help you find any damaged or corrupted entries in your registry which may be causing it to run slower than usual.
